11. Page loading times

Website visitors – and therefore search engines – want fast loading pages. According to the BBC, around 50 per cent of visitors won’t wait for more than three seconds, so if your site takes longer, you need to increase its speed as a matter of urgency.

12. Inclusion of sitemaps

A sitemap is a handy tool that reassures Google that your site is user-friendly and well thought out.

13. Appropriate link anchor text

Don’t use the words ‘click here’ on links, but choose descriptive text instead. This proves to Google that your link is of high quality.

14. Intuitive layout

Can your visitors find their way around your site and pages to find the information they want? Google will reward you with higher status if your layout encourages visitors to stay on your site.

15. Don’t overdo the keywords

Outbound links are good, but only if they lead to high quality websites, so don’t use links just for the sake of it.
